About the Event
NOTE: Our Term 2 Book Club meetup had to be rescheduled, so we are now meeting on July 18th (Week 1 of Term 3)
Join us for great food and conversation. Once a term we choose a thought provoking read and get together for a Potluck style meal and see where the conversation takes us. BYO food & drink to share. Everyone is welcome. We're not a literary book club - in fact we don't even mind if you haven't read the book! We choose books that can be conversation starters around themes that are relevant to us in our community.
Our Term 2 book is 470 by Linda Woodrow. Linda is a Permaculture author and practitioner, and this is a novel set in the very near future on Australia's East coast.
“It all began with a question: I wonder what life will be like in a climate-changed world? It sparked a series of follow on questions: What practical skills, assets and relationships, and most importantly, what attitudes of mind, will be useful?"
470 is an easy read, and the scenarios it explores are not so far-fetched. In the 3 years since 470 was published, several real world crises have looked frighteningly similar to the fictional story Linda created. 470 should give us plenty to talk about in terms of our own community's resilience and preparedness for an unpredictable future. There is one copy in the Goldfields library and it's available on Kindle. You can also buy it online from most bookstores including Holmgren Design or at Collins Booksellers in Sunbury.
Please RSVP to help us with planning.
