Landscape project updates

Follow us on Instagram for ongoing updates of the works in action @mmmchLandscapeProject

12 July, Stage 1 of the Landscaping Project is complete - the gates are on! Luke and the crew from Gingko Yards have delivered on time and on budget There are a few more improvements to make and this will happen over the next few weeks. There are also planting working bees being organised for 28 July - exciting times ahead.

27 June, M&MMCH are the very proud recipients of a Tiny Towns grant that will allow us to new fund a community-led gardening program, including a qualified Horticulturalist and Permaculture educator to deliver skills and training to build capacity in the local community. This will provide a good foundation for the ongoing maintenance of the gardens created as part of the landscaping project. It will also provide necessary garden furniture and a water tank that was not funded as part of the initial grant that allowed M&MMCH to move forward with Stage 1 of the landscaping project. M&MMCH hosted Minister Tierney and Minister Thomas for the announcement.  Many of the local businesses, organisations and treasured supporters joined the M&MMCH committee for the event - a great way to start the day (and the weather was sensational!)

21 June, The last of the pathways to the lower areas have now been poured to allow for easy all abilities access. Luke and the Gingko Yards crew have been busy getting the garden beds topped up with soil, building the wicking beds, installing the western driveway, and finishing the last of the retaining walls. What a great progress to date - it will only be a few weeks now before the work on Stage 1 is complete. Then it will be time for our volunteer gardeners to create their magic adding the first of the plantings and greenery. Spring will bring a very different view of the House.

7 June, The front path has been laid - this will provide accessible entrance to the front of the House and down to the gardens at the side and back.

31 May, What a difference a week makes! The pathways on the western side have been laid - this will be edged with garden beds and seating or you can lay on the lawn. The new community garden beds will be added between the fence and the trellis (though we may need to wait on more funding for some of the extras).

24 May, There has been a lot happening over the last week. The new front entrance area is been created with a new fence and a cement pad that can be used for a community exchange space. Work is also been undertaken to ensure the sensory garden has the base fill ready for the stage. This area will be extended with timber arbours - it should look amazing when finished. Ben Bush (Bushy) from Chisel and Hoe is working on the back access at the end of the new driveway, landscaping the area with beautiful boulders.  He is very crafty with his little digger - it is quite an artform to correctly position the rocks.

17 May, Volunteers and sponsors for the landscaping project met for a photo shoot for the local papers! Thanks to SBJ & MRGS and the Garden Lover's Fair (Graham from Forest / Stokes Collection was in the US enjoying a well earned rest after the Autumn Festival).

Luke and the Gingko Yards crew are now working on the front entrance - installing a fence and constructing the levels to create ease of access for all! The storage sheds have been installed and will be put to good use decluttering the House.

25 April 2024, Luke and the crew from Gingko Yards have been hard at work. The driveway has now been laid and is curing. The work to redesign the front entrance has also begun.

9 April 2024, Ground works commence on the Landscape Design & Construction Project (Stage 1)

This stage of the Landscape Design and Construction project is well underway, with preparations for the concrete pour of the new eastern driveway having been completed prior to the Easter long weekend. The eastern driveway is scheduled to be completed by end April, and ground works for the remainder of the stage one works will continue throughout April and May. Access to the Community House, for indoor activities, will be maintained throughout the construction.

Stage 1 focuses on providing the Community House with a ‘welcoming’ arrival space, an indigenous native garden, an edible food permaculture garden, a sensory garden, and an additional external storage area.

Additional funding is being sought to purchase addition fixtures such as outdoor park benches, outdoor utility sheds, fixed outdoor table and seating, bike storage racks, a water tank, garden irrigation systems, notice boards and a community exchange display unit.
